Porting to OpenSocial is not eezy peezy
Specifically, I’m talking about the trials associated with porting a Facebook app to MySpace’s OpenSocial implementation. I’m still in the midst of figuring a lot of stuff out, but I just found a great article by Thought Labs which outlines all the issues I’ve been noticing myself. Thanks for the great writeup guys! The biggest question for me right now is whether or not we developers can develop fully in an iframe on the app canvas pages. There’s a Myspace forum thread on that here, and I have a question in to the Myspace developers to see what’s up. Facebook allows you to serve and link between your own pages in a canvas page iframe, using your own javascript, html, css, etc. MySpace really needs to allow the same. Otherwise, it might be like Jonathan said in the forum thread:
We will stop porting our apps to myspace as the html/js interface is far too limiting for complex applications.
