Facebook partners with Amazon Web Services
The other Facebook news from the end of last week is that they’ve formed an official partnership with Amazon Web Services. This is actually really exciting because Amazon has built a very cost-efficient suite of cloud computing services. S3 has been amazing for awhile now, and their EC2 web service is evolving quickly. Nate Brown, the CTO of iLike.com, puts it like this:
If I were starting up another company today I would think hard about building something that could live almost entirely in the AWS cloud. The cost of doing a web-startup has dropped 100x in the past 10 years, and the right project can be another 10x cheaper to build to scale using AWS if you think it through carefully.
