DATA PORTABILITY!!! (a reason to shout)
ReadWriteWeb is calling it a bombshell, and I say that is possibly an understatement. The big news is that Google and Facebook have joined DataPortability.org, which is an organization, a movement dedicated to making our personal data (identity, photos, videos, etc.) discoverable by, and shared between our chosen tools or vendors. I’m most impressed with Facebook joining. They could have greedily hoarded their growing power at the expense of their users. But now it looks like they are taking the high road. I think this will earn them major credibility and love from geeks and mainstreamers alike. This also means a lot of innovation can happen in the online aggregator market. I’m so stoked!
