Attracting the creative class
Here’s a great article about the rise of the creative class and why certain cities are far more attractive to them than others. The tag line of the article actually strangely says it all: “Why cities without gays and rock bands are losing the economic development race.” My company is currently in Roseville, CA, which is a couple hours from the startup mecca. I’ve been thinking for some time about moving to San Fran or Palo Alto, and this article articulates a big part of the reason why I want to move. Being in the right location helps you attract the right people. It may be just as important as having the right idea, the right creative work environment, and the right team of people.
