Introducing Faceplanting - faceplant yourself and your friends!
To our fellow users of the great Internet Machine: just in time for the Holidays (or anytime really), and most definitely in the spirit of giving, allow us to introduce you to Faceplanting. So what is it? Well, it’s an online game we made where anyone can create their own Faceplanting page and invite their friends to creatively morph (aka Faceplant) their face. In fact, the more friends that you invite, the better your Faceplanting page becomes. It’s personal and hilarious, a complete waste of time, and something you’ll most likely really love. We hope you’ll give it a go.
Faceplanting is the first web product from a small web startup called Phoenomi (that’s us), and as such, we have to say we’re delighted you’ve stopped by. We like to build uniquely fun and viral web products that all of our fellow Internet Machine users can use and love, so we hope you enjoy Faceplanting immensely!
While it’s true that we had the idea and saw the project through to the end, we also had a lot of outside help with implementing the details and iterating to the best possible end result. There are several people we’d like to thank because without them Faceplanting would never have seen the light of day.
First of all, a huge helping of thanks (with a side of admiration) goes to the flash geniuses at gskinner.com. Not only did they license us their brilliant morphing code, but they are also responsible for all the elegant flash work throughout the site.
Next we’d like to thank the insanely talented Benzinger brothers who head up Parallel. Tim came on board early on and created a site design that’s both beautiful and fun. Later, his brother Brian came on board and gave the project a brain wired with php, MySql, and Amazon S3. We’ve never worked with a more clever, or more helpful pair of persons.
We’d also like to thank our host, Mosso (aka The Hosting System). These guys came on board early on to sponsor our hosting, back when all we had were screenshots of Tim’s excellent site design. We love them for that, but we love them even more for having the most stable and scalable hosting platform we’ve ever encountered. Seriously, go check out their technology. Mix that with their personal, ever-present support team and you suddenly realize that they don’t really have an equal, anywhere. In our opinion, if you’re not being hosted by Mosso, you’re only hurting yourself.
All of the contractors I mentioned above are not only brilliant, but they are also true believers. Every single one of them worked on Faceplanting for far less than they would have normally. Being a small startup just starting out, we had a tiny, micro-miniature, amoeba-sized budget, and they came on board anyway because they really liked the idea. How can we thank them enough for this, for being such an integral part of the Faceplanting story? The truth is we simply can’t thank them enough. We’ll keep trying though.
If you haven’t already, get out there and start Faceplanting—word on the street is it’s almost guaranteed to make you laugh out loud.
Thanks again for stopping by!
