Even innovators can drop the ball
I think Apple is one of the most innovative companies in the world. Their hardware and desktop software is amazing, and their music business is tight. But why, oh why, can’t they start a media (music and videos) discovery social network? Startups like Last.fm and Ilike are really schooling Apple in this category, and I think Apple is losing a lot of money by not making a play here.
Sure, Apple is a platform for selling music that these other social services can tap into, but why not go to the source, to the people? It’s like they have no idea how powerful and influential social networking could be for their brand. This just proves that even innovators can drop the ball.
And hey, Apple, if you do ever make a move in this arena, please buy Delicious Monster and make it cross platform. This program’s interface is so gorgeous that it would drive adoption of your Ipods and social media platform.
