Why Google payed $900 million to MySpace

VC Fred has a great line here about why Google payed $900 million to MySpace for the privilege of being their default search and ad provider for the next three years (keep in mind MySpace now has over 100 million members worldwide):

I look at my kids and their start pages aren’t Yahoo or Google News. Its their MySpace page. That’s where their world is. It’s no wonder that Google paid MySpace $900 million to be the search provider on MySpace.

Fred also points out that MySpace could be “seeding their own decline” because they are starting to reign in what users can do with their pages.
